I can help you

My first introduction to insurance law was as Supervising Solicitor of the Residential Advisory Service (RAS), a service set up to provide Canterbury home owners who had unresolved earthquake claims with free legal advice and representation. In this role, I effectively created a boutique insurance law firm within a Community Law Centre.

Since then, I have acted for clients across a wide range of insurance issues including house insurance, land insurance, medical insurance, commercial insurance contracts, professional indemnity claims, claims relating to insurer-managed repairs, Kaikoura earthquake claims and Canterbury earthquake claims.

I act for both insurers and insured. I take a problem-solving approach and seek solutions to insurance law issues at the earliest possible stage. I have provided clients with strategic advice, managed complex information requests, negotiated solutions, briefed and liaised with experts, acted for parties in numerous mediations, taken claims to the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman, the Human Rights Tribunal and the High Court.

I recognise that many insurance claims depend on getting the basics rights and following processes that are fair and reasonable, ensuring that systems for effective communication are implemented and recognise the importance of professional relationships in the insurance law context.

I often have to review and analyse complex information in order to empower my clients to make informed choices when seeking to resolve their insurance claims. I recognise that insurance law overlaps with other areas of law and often thus able to think outside the box when providing clients with strategic advice.
